Daniel Tiger Joins PBS Western Reserve & Eastwood Mall for Be My Neighbor Day

PBS Western Reserve invites families to celebrate community with Daniel Tiger at their annual Be My Neighbor Day. This year, it will be held on Saturday, August 8, from 11AM to 2PM in Center Court of Eastwood Mall in Niles.

The event is supported by PNC Grow Up Great and will feature a resource fair of local partner organizations; activities; a raffle; and giveaways including books, bookbags, and coloring pages. Families will also have a chance to meet local community helpers and take a picture with Daniel Tiger from the popular PBS KIDS program, “Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood.” The meet & greet includes Daniel Tiger branded capes. Capes and giveaway items are available while supplies last.

Among the event’s activities are a community helpers dress-up area, where children can choose from several different costumes to explore the roles of local heroes, such as firefighters, doctors, police officers, construction workers, mail carriers, and more. There will also be rock painting, a card-making station where kids can prepare cards for senior citizens at a local assisted living facility, and free children’s haircuts provided by Casal Aveda Institute.

Organizations participating in the resource fair include:

·        McKinley Memorial Library

·        Girl Scouts of North East Ohio

·        United Way of Trumbull County

·        ONE Health Ohio

·        Cub Scout Pack 401 of Warren, Ohio

·        Warren-Trumbull County Public Library

Be My Neighbor Day is free and does not require any form of registration. “We are excited to welcome families for a day to celebrate kindness and community,” said Holly Cartwright, Chief Education Officer at PBS Western Reserve. “Be My Neighbor Day gives families the opportunity to learn and play together while inspiring children to become caring members of their own community.”

PBS Western Reserve is a community organization that empowers Northeast Ohio and Western Pennsylvania through the impact of accessible public media and educational services to foster connection and lifelong learning. PBS Western Reserve presents cultural, scientific, and artistic programming for awareness and enjoyment; local storytelling, and access to trusted regional, state, and national public affairs; experiential opportunities and community outreach for people of all ages; and educational initiatives that support the healthy development of youth.

PBS Western Reserve is made up of two separately licensed public television stations (WNEO and WEAO) and an Educational Services division operating under one 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation, Northeastern Educational Television of Ohio Inc. (NETO). WNEO was established in 1971, is licensed to the city of Alliance and serves the Youngstown designated television market. WEAO went on the air in 1975, is licensed to the city of Akron and serves the Cleveland-Akron-Canton designated television market. All programming is simulcast on both stations.

Now in its eighth season on PBS KIDS, “Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood,” the first original show from Fred Rogers Productions since Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood, brings the children’s television pioneer’s legacy to life for a whole new generation of young viewers. Every episode of the well-loved series showcases two distinct stories starring four-year-old Daniel Tiger and his friends, who invite viewers to join them as they explore the colorful Neighborhood of Make-Believe. Irresistible musical strategies reinforce the unique theme of each show; preschoolers and parents can sing along and incorporate them into their daily lives.
